Responsibilities

The Certified Medication Aide administers medication to nursing residents, under the direction of the nursing and administrative staff.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Administers and documents medication in accordance with the five rights: right to medication, right route, right resident, right time, right dose.
  • Administers and documents medications given by following specifically written physicians orders, including oral, topical, and suppository medication, as well as eye and ear drops.
  • Reviews Resident Medication Administration Records daily for order changes.
  • Assures that medication labels match medication orders on the MAR.
  • Assures that certain medications are dated when opened and routinely cleans medication cart.
  • Obtains and records resident vital signs and weight.
  • Observes, records and reports observations such as unexpected and untoward effects from medications.
  • Assists residents with activities of daily living.
  • Answers resident calls for assistance
  • Serves and monitors residents during dining, and assists in clearing the tables after meals.
  • Provides a high level of quality care and service to all residents and their families in a professional and positive manner.
  • Must attend all require training and in-services.

Qualifications:

  • Current Certified Medication Aide certification in good standing in the state of Texas.
  • Current Certified Nursing Assistant CNA certification in good standing in the state of Texas.
  • Minimum of 6 months experience as a Certified Medication Aide CMA.
